The Osawa Yuka ArchivesHarmonyOS version of WeChat, built on an independent architecture separate from Android or iOS, was launched by Tencent on Huawei’s AppGallery on Thursday. The current version supports key features, including messaging, social interactions, WeChat Pay, official accounts, mini-programs, video channels, and live streaming. On the Chinese social platform Weibo, the developer team behind WeChat, the billion-user social app, shared insights about the journey of creating the HarmonyOS version. From its project initiation in March 2024 to its launch, the HarmonyOS version of WeChat was developed from scratch, the team said. Using the Alita Core for cross-platform support, the team overcame challenges such as technical adaptation, high concurrency, and module decoupling. [WeChat Team, in Chinese]
