It was just a little over a month ago that organizers of the Women's March -- which drew millions to protest Donald Trump's inauguration -- announced they would be organizing a general strike on March 8, International Women's Day.

The cause? A fight for much-needed wage equality, an end to violence against women, and a general pursuit of fair rights.

Some businesses and nonprofits were proud to share just how impacted their workplaces were by the strikes.

Media sites like Bustleand New York Magazine's The Cutaren't publishing any new content for a full 24 hours, while a number of companies tweeted they would be closed for the day.

Working women have risen up. And the world has taken note.
