Rock operas are Kelly the Coed 1 (1999)cool and all, but Green Day's going back to their roots now with short and to the point, in-your-face pop punk songs in case we don't really have that much time to listen to Billie Joe Armstrong whine.
The band released the title track off their upcoming album, Revolution Radio. Armstrong has a bone to pick with 2016 -- he's ready for, "the dawn of the new airwaves for the anti-social media," and is offering up power chords for the cause.

"I learned that the hard way. You can't be enthusiastic for the sake of enthusiasm. You have to get out of trying to outdo and one-up yourself all the time," said Armstrong. "We had to break that habit, because suddenly we weren't really being ourselves anymore. . . . I was a little burnt out on being in Green Day. We needed to stop."

Armstrong, who abused alcohol and pills on and of for years, is now four years sober. On Revolution Radio, he addresses his personal demons and the state of chaos in the world, but in the Green Day way.
"Everything became so apocalyptic," says Armstrong. "We lost a little bit of our goofiness, the part of Green Day that I always liked."
