In what is Hannah Harper Archivescertainly a shocking twist in the Zayn Malik and One Direction saga, the singer reveals that leaving the boy band world behind finally allowed him the freedom to sing about hAvInG sEx.
Malik also recorded some of the vocals for Mind of Minewith a condom over his microphone and released the track listing over a picture of sperm. We get it, Zayn -- you've totally done it.

Every lyric I’ve ever written has a story behind it. All the hard work that went into the creation of ‘Pillowtalk’ was worthwhile because, as soon as it was finished, I intuitively felt I was on the right path. It was a sick cut, nailing the exact sound I wanted to capture in my music. I was also able to sing about a subject that I hadn’t really been able to go near while I was in One Direction: sex.
Now, it's not like One Direction, like the boy bands of yore, ever feigned chastity. On Zayn's last album with 1D, the boys sang lines like, "Waking up beside you, I'm a loaded gun." True, that isn't quite as straightforward as the, "fucking and fighting," of "Pillowtalk." But hey, point made.
In a feature with the magazine promoting the book, Zayn makes sure his personal videographer properly captures his joint, "Did you get the smoke on that?”
