2016 was a big year for Kickstarter.

The Lie with me explicit sex scenes (2005) - Lauren Lee smithcrowdfunding platform took some time Wednesday to highlight the year in Kickstarter projects.

In total, 3.5 million people supported Kickstarter projects last year. In the first week of 2017, 250 Kickstarter founders showed off their projects at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Dozens of Kickstarter creators will show films at the Sundance Film Festival in late January, Kickstarter said.

Overall, 19 Kickstarter creators showed films at the Tribeca Film Festival. Four artists using Kickstarter got Grammy nominations.

Last year, Kickstarter expanded its platform to Hong Kong, Mexico and Singapore, too.

"Over the next year, lifting the voices of independent creators will become even more important. We’re committed to giving those voices a stage, and helping them earn an audience," Kickstarter wrote in a blog post.
