How much abuse can Biography ArchivesSamsung's Galaxy S8 take? In most cases, the question is mostly an academic one, as the vast majority of users won't expose their phone to potential damage beyond a few drops and perhaps a brush with the car keys.
But after the disastrous launch of the Galaxy Note7 -- a phone Samsung had to pull from the market after numerous reports of it overheating and bursting into flames -- all eyes are on Samsung's new flagship.
SEE ALSO: Early Samsung Galaxy S8 owners are seeing red ... screens, that isA recent test took things to the extreme, damaging the S8's battery with a Dremel tool, and the phone passed with flying colors -- nothing blew up.
A new test by JerryRigEverything is a little more in line with what a typical S8 might actually endure in real life usage. It shows the phone's glass and metal parts scratched; its screen burned with fire and the entire phone bent.
Amazingly, the phone survives all this with what is basically only visual damage. Yes, the device will scratch if you try hard enough, but it's on par or better than most phones around. And when you burn its screen with a lighter for about ten seconds, the screen will go white, but will -- in most cases -- recover to its original state. The S8 also went through the bending test with seemingly no damage.
Obviously, these types of tests are unscientific and prove very little, but it is comforting to see the device take a solid amount of abuse and remain fully functional, without a trace of smoke coming out of the battery. Chances are, we might just forget about the Note7.
