Hilary Duff and her boyfriend, trainer Jason Walsh, received a lot of backlash this Halloween for dressing up as a pilgrim and a Native American, respectively (but notrespectfully).

"Sooooo the fake gun for my pilgrim costume came. Don't think it's quite big enough," she wrote. If only she'd taken that as a sign that they shouldn't go forth with their costumes, we could have avoided this whole mess...
Some predicable social media backlash ensued once photos of their costumes emerged.

"I am SO sorry to people I offended with my costume. It was not properly thought through and I am truly, from the bottom of my ❤️ sorry," tweeted Duff.

"I meant no disrespect. I only have admiration for the indigenous people of America," Walsh wrote on Instagram. "In hindsight I would not have made that decision. I apologize to anyone I may have offended."
I guess the tiny cartoon Lizzie McGuire conscience that lives in Duff's head was on vacation this Halloweekend.
