As of now, details of why the incident occurred come primarily from Bridges and Anspachs' tweets. According to them, United asked for volunteers to give up their seats so that United crew members who had to work the next day could be accommodated.
After no one volunteered, passengers were selected by the crew to give up their seats. The man in the video and his wife were chosen. However, he claimed he had to stay on the flight because of the fact that he had patients to see in the morning.
