UPDATE 6:40 p.m. PT: Siri slowly got her shit together and can we eroticize equality meaganis now listing the correct song as Bulgaria's national anthem.
--
Original story:
Oh, Siri. Poor, confused Siri.
Apple's digital assistant is living in a fantasy world where the song of the summer is now the national anthem of Bulgaria. At least she doesn't think Justin Bieber is the Balkan nation's president.
A sharp-eyed Reddit user discovered the screwup, which was then reported by CNET. As of this writing, Siri is still spreading #fakenews about Bulgaria.
It's unclear why Siri thinks the most-streamed song of all time is Bulgaria's national anthem. Siri surfaces information from Wikipedia, but the Wikipedia pages for Bulgaria, its real national anthem “Мила Родино,” and "Despacito" don't mention this alternative fact.
Bulgaria's anthem, "Mila Rodino," or "Dear Motherland" in English, also has nothing in common with "Despacito." One's a hipshaking Spanish tune by Louis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, featuring Justin Bieber in a remix, while the other is a soaring orchestral number that sounds like it could slide into an opera without anyone noticing.
Apple hasn't responded to a request for comment about the mishap. Hmmm, what are they hiding? A mystery for the ages.
